My dear friends are fighting 2 types of cancer

Jeff, Courtney and I go back to our days at East Carolina University (some 35 years ago). We have been through weddings, births and other life events together.

I have set up this site to raise money for my married friends, Jeff and Courtney as they each are battling separate cancers. Jeff was diagnosed in June with Multiple Myeloma and Courtney in July with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Complicating things, Jeff’s full-time job ended in May (one month prior to his cancer diagnosis). Unfortunately, Jeff’s job search had to come to an abrupt end when his full time fight against cancer began. This has left them dependent on Courtney’s income to cover living and medical expenses along with savings that are quickly being depleted even on current insurance coverage.

I am working to raise these funds for Jeff and Courtney as they navigate through Jeff’s Bone Marrow Transplant coming up in December. This is the final treatment for Jeff following radiation, a partial hip replacement and 4 cycles of chemotherapy. The hope is that this will put Jeff’s cancer in remission. Courtney will complete her 3 chemo cycles soon and is expecting to be cured!

Even with Courtney cured, she will be out of work to care for Jeff during his isolation time leaving no income to cover living expenses. When Jeff is able to start work, he will only be allowed to work remotely for up to the first year due to his weakened immune system from the transplant. Finding a job that provides him the safety of remote work may be a hurdle in itself.

Jeff and Courtney have been very active in their community (preschool, Kiwanis and Scouts) and have displayed nothing but a positive front on this journey that they are experiencing together. With Jeff being out of work and as the primary provider, I hope the worry of finances can be lifted from them through this difficult time. The funds will be used to cover their expenses: insurance, medical and basic living expenses not covered by Courtney’s salary. There will also be costs associated with the transplant, not covered by insurance. All funds will go directly into Jeff and Courtney’s bank account so that they have immediate access as funds are needed.

Many have asked how they can help which has been so heartwarming to Jeff and Courtney. Your generosity will not only alleviate the financial strain, but also provide emotional support that is invaluable during such a challenging period.
