Hi, my name is Luca and I’m fundraising for my Deaf Rugby World Cup Experience in Japan.
I have played rugby since the age of 5 and always wished to represent my country. Just before my 5th birthday I was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis which ultimately lead to me becoming deaf in my right ear. During my studies in Caerleon Comprehensive school I met James Savastano who informed me about the Wales Deaf Rugby Union team and I knew that this could be my opportunity to play for my country. I had trained with the Welsh Deaf team a couple times at the age of 17 but was unable to play until I was 18.
Since my 18th birthday, I have played 2 friendly games and have another friendly against Jamaica in the weeks coming. I will hopefully have my first cap game against England later this year which leaves me in a great spot to attend the World Cup in Japan.
This World Cup is a once in a lifetime opportunity for myself and everyone involved. All funds that are raised will go towards travel and accommodation whilst I spend time in Japan.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I’m very grateful for any donations/sponsorship I may receive.
