My daughter Krystyna Stern is a 46 yr. old Single Mother raising a teenage son.
She has taught in the Exceptional Children’s’ Program (EC) most of her adult life. She later became a EC Case Manager for the Cumberland County School System in Fayetteville, NC. 2 years ago she accepted a position as an EC Community-Based Operation Specialist for the Cumberland County School System to further serve her “EC Kids” as they transition from High School to paid jobs performing services that contribute to our great City and County. But to her it has always been so much more. She goes above and beyond for “her kids” by fostering relationships with outside businesses, community church liaisons and various clubs to ensure that “her EC kids” needs are met…whether that be shoes, clothing, food, school supplies, toiletries, or gifts for Christmas that they otherwise would not have. It’s all about the children for her!!!
Unfortunately, she now needs your help! She underwent what was to be a relatively simple medical procedure on December 18th, 2023 and was released 3 days later. She was home recovering and expecting to return to work 2-3 weeks later when it all went awry. Complications reared their ugly head and on January 4th she was remitted to the hospital. She had her 2nd Surgery on January 5th, 2024 with high hopes that this would fix the issue, but 5 days later she was rushed into the Operating Room for a Laparotomy which is major surgery. Due to an intestinal leak she had severe infection, fluid and bile. Her surgeon was unable to safely close her abdomen and she was placed in ICU at WakeMed Cary Hospital in a medically-induced coma while being placed on a ventilator. She remained on the ventilator for 11 days. On February 1st after an 8th Surgery she was transferred to Duke Regional Hospital, Critical Care Unit in Durham, NC. She remains in CCU with 8 abdominal drains, a J-tube for feedings, a Hickman line for IV fluids, meds, blood draws, etc. After meeting with their Surgical Team
the News’s was unsettling with more Operations, Treatments and a Long Road ahead of her. She will be unable to work for an Extensive Period of Time.
Needless to say, she needs assistance in paying her regular monthly bills, astronomical medical bills and continual medical care once she is able to return home. Our Family has done all we can to help her, but it’s just too overwhelming for us as it was not planned nor expected.
Please contribute any amount you choose as every dollar counts!
Thank You for your Prayers and your Giving Hearts ❤️
