Hi my name is Linda Garza, my beautiful daughter, Emily Garza is a sweet special needs young lady who started having seizures about 2 and 1/2 years ago. She has been taking many anti seizure medications and she continued to have daily atonic seizures (called drop seizures) she has broken her wrist and has bumped , bruised , cut herself ... just about 3 weeks ago she had an atonic seizure in her bedroom and hit her head on the corner of her dresser and she hit so hard her eyeglasses ended up in the hallway but with the love of God the glasses actually saved her from really injuring her eye more than just a blackened eye and cuts, she also bruised her both arms and knees.
Back in November sher neurologist consulted with a neurosurgeon about Emily being a good candidate for a corpus callostomy to help if not completely stop her atonic seizures. Monday February 13th, 2023 my daughter under went the surgery which should of been between 2 to 3 hours but it lasted 7 and 1/2 hours.
Emily is having to relearn to walk, talk, toilet training eating, swallowing all over again. She had a few setbacks but is progressing now slowly but she's had to be in the hospital in Dallas TX longer than expected and she will need several weeks of rehabilitation in a rehabilitation center. This has impacted our family since I'm with her at all times so she has someone to be verbal for her and she won't be scared. I have another adult son who is special needs and I am the caregiver for both Emily and my son.
My daughter needs to be transferred to a closer rehabilitation center to home which is in Midland Tx and insurance doesn't cover it . The cost is from $3800 to $6500 . These funds would help cover transportation costs to rehabilitation center and with hotel cost here in Dallas because we have pretty much exhausted our financial funds with it being a longer hospital stay than expected.
Prayers is most important right now, so if a donation is not something you all can help with, please please say a prayer for my Sweet girl. Thank you so much Emily's mama Linda
