My Dad's Pancreatic Cancer Surgery

The surgery which my dad hopes to get in Germany will cost over $100,000 CAD. My ultimate goal is to get as close to this as possible in order to help relieve my dad of the financial burden associated with this surgery. I am so greatly appreciative of the kind messages and generous donations which I have received. Thank you so much.

Sharing my story is, without a doubt, a great challenge. Being comfortable with vulnerability is a difficult thing, but I am reaching out for assistance and support during a time in which my family needs it the most.

In July of this year (2017), my family of four received the devastating news which drastically changed our lives- my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Because of this diagnosis and the related chemotherapy, my dad is unable to work and is currently relying on disability benefits. Amongst the hardships with which my family was faced, we tried hard to take each day at a time and we were determined to remain positive as a team. On the morning of August 25th, 2017, I received the news of my mom's sudden and tragic death. Receiving this news- knowing that I had lost my mom, knowing that she would not be at my high school graduation, and knowing that she would not be here to support my dad through his chemotherapy, I was completely heartbroken- somehow numb, but in so much pain at the same time. Since all of this, I have not missed one of my dad's chemotherapy treatments, as I have promised myself that I would be there to support him every step of the way

Where we live in Burnaby, Canada, because of the location of my dad's tumour, there is no pancreatic surgeon in British Columbia that is willing to operate on my dad. Through research and the help of a close friend, we have been able to locate a world-renowned pancreatic surgeon in Heidelberg, Germany, that has reviewed my dad's case and has decided that it is a surgical case that the surgeon would definitely be able to do. My dad has been asked to go to Germany for the surgery as soon as possible, and the costs associated with going to Germany and having the surgery will be over $100,000 CAD.

My brother and I really need my dad by our side and we are determined to have him with us for years and years to come. Being left with only one parent, my brother and I are grieving, but we are doing everything we can to support my dad so that he can live to see both of us accomplish our goals. We sincerely appreciate any and every bit of help that we receive.

For anyone considering making a donation, we understand that you may wish to connect with us beforehand. If so, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you so much.
