My Dad's Brilliant Brain

Hi everyone! My name is Caileigh, and that's my dad, Richard (or papa to me). A few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor (not cancer) in his pituitary, pressing against his optical nerve and completely altering his hormone levels. He's been sick for a long time, mentally and physically, and in some ways, this diagnosis is a relief, because now there is a game plan and a cause. However, the surgery needed to take out this tumor is unrelentingly expensive. The tumor has wrapped itself around blood vessels and is therefore much more complicated (and more costly, not to mention dangerous) to take out. Up until the diagnosis, all of our saved money was going towards my mom's hip replacement. Now it will be redirected, but even with this there simply isn't enough. We just found out that his paid leave has been denied by the Austin Independent School District because he has to have "worked at least a month before the leave starts". Since it has been summer, this is impossible. He cannot go back to work before his surgery, because he is going blind. His surgery is scheduled for September 10th with up to 2 months in recovery, and during this period, my family of 5 will only have my mom's retail salary to live off of. I don't tell this story to make people feel sorry for my father or me, or guilty, or even upset. I tell my father's story because my family is in need of help, and I would do anything for them. I understand that not everyone is in a position to assist financially, so simply sharing this link would be an amazing gift to us. My dad is the smartest, most compassionate person I know. I don't want to see that taken away from him. Thank you,
