My Dad Survived a 230ft Fall; He Needs Help

Hi, my name is Katherine, and I was born and raised in New York City. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help. A few days ago, my father, who moved to Ecuador nearly 10 years ago; was involved in a horrific car accident. He and my uncle were driving from Cuenca to Guayaquil, a 3–4 hour journey through winding mountain roads, to pick up my brother, who was flying in from the U.S. to visit family.

As they were leaving Cuenca, their car lost control possibly due to oil or ice on the road and slipped off the side of a mountain. They plunged over 230 feet down into a creek.

My uncle lost consciousness during the fall, but miraculously survived with no broken bones. My father, however, was fully conscious the entire way down. He told me it was the most terrifying moment of his life not knowing if they would survive or if his brother was still alive.

He suffered multiple severe injuries, including a broken clavicle, a fractured humerus, and torn ribs. He has already undergone two surgeries, and while we are incredibly grateful he is alive, the road to recovery is long and costly.

Medical expenses have already exceeded $35,000 and that doesn’t include follow-up care, rehabilitation, or the basic support he needs while he heals. My dad is a kind, humble, and strong man who’s always been there for others and now he needs help.

I’m doing everything I can from New York, but I can’t do this alone. Any amount you can give will help ease the financial burden on my family and help my father focus on healing.
