My dad, Marvin(Skinny) Rote fight cancer!

Donation protected
May 9th, 2023 update: Well Dad had his biopsy on April 25th and the doctor found no cancer around the lungs, praise God!! Yesterday, May 8th he traveled to Philly to see Dr. Karakousis, who has decided it's best to move forward with surgery! My Dad is scheduled for peritoneal HIPEC surgery in Philadelphia where they'll go into his stomach and remove as much cancer as they can, they will then place hot chemo in the stomach and rotate his body for approx. 90 mins. before releasing the chemo back out. The surgery will last approx. 5 hours! Dad will be in the hospital about 7 days. So that being said, this will cost a lot to travel back and fourth and possibly a hotel stay. Dad very much hopes this will provide him great treatment so he can get back to driving concrete truck again, but we know he's got quite a recovery after surgery. We truly are so grateful for the help this far, but we know that it's still a long road ahead. We apprieciate the prayers, and the donations. Please don't hesitate to share even if you can't donate! Much love to you all.

Spring Update:
Where to even begin…
My dad has had a rough winter/spring with side effects from chemotherapy. He’s had several blood transfusions and been very week.
3 weeks ago he went in for a scan to see the progress the chemo is making. There were inconclusive results. He had to head back to Philly to talk to the surgeon about the next course of action which included talking to a Mesothelioma oncologist. To make this story shorter he is headed to Philly Monday April 24th for a PETscan to really see what’s happening in there. They believe the chemo could be working but he has some fluid around the lungs so Tuesday April 25th they’ll take a biopsy of the lungs and fluid and go from there. We could have more chemo in future or immunotherapy if the cancer has spread. With lots of prayers and hard work we hope to get this under control so he can have the big surgery. At this point your donations would be such a help for traveling and stay.  Please continue prayers and donations if you feel lead to do so.
My dads FMLA will run out this month and his disability has yet to be approved. Thank you again for all the support. If you know my dad he never was the most emotional or shared his feelings but this has changed him. Anytime some one donates, asks how he is he truly appreciates it and loves it ❤️

  Update for January:
My dad had his first Chemo session
yesterday, January 13th. So far he’s doing ok but we’ve got a long road ahead. He’s been missing quite a bit of work due to abdominal pain. Hopefully the chemo will begin to dry up some of the cancer which would help with the fluid build up and stomach pains.
This is only the beginning but we’re still feeling hopeful and encouraged by all your thoughts and prayers! SHARE SHARE SHARE PLEASE! The more people who see and share our story the better! God is good all the time!

UPDATE: My Dad headed to UPenn in Philly last week for exploratory surgery and a larger biopsy to confirm the type of Mesothelioma. He’s got a check up next week then will begin a three month stint of Chemo here in Lancaster. Before the BIG surgery in Philly which will leave him with a long stay in the hospital! So far we have hope and great direction from the doctor. My dad will most likely not be able to work during chemo so any donation is ALWAYS helpful. So is sharing his story and praying for him and my Mom.
We appreciate all the support monetary and prayers! Our God is big and he knows what he’s doing. Thank you again ❤️ MERRY CHRISTMAS! -HP

Hi I’m Heather Pho the daughter of Marvin and Pam Rote. I never thought I’d have to make one of these, the news of my dad having not one but two types of cancer still seems like a horrible nightmare.
Although my Dad is in great spirits and doesn’t have really bad symptoms yet he’s in for quite a fight!
His cancer is on his kidney along with a more serious type on his stomach lining (the paritoneal) which is mesothelioma. It’s very aggressive and treatment is needed right away.
As most of you know my dads the hardest worker I know and has been the breadwinner since I can remember. Now with him needing treatment funds will be tight and the medical bills have already begun. I don’t want them to focus on that. I want my mom and dads focus of his health.
Even if you yourself are struggling I’d love even a card, or kind words and lots of prayers! But if you feel so led to give may God put another jewel on your heavenly crown ❤️
With warmest wishes and Thank you have a great holiday season.
-Heather Pho
