My dad had a motorcycle accident

My dad, Brigido Nunez (Bri-he-dough) is a 55 year old devoted husband and father. He’s a hard worker who would work 16 + hours, for 6 to 7 days during the week. And if that wasn’t enough, he’d always put in overtime just to make ends meet. He has a passion for motorcycles and music. Motorcycles have been my dad’s passion since he was 16 years old. My dad is a traditional family man and he made sure everyone knew it too. Family bonding at the dinner table is essential to him.
On Tuesday, May 8th, 2018, a typical day with clear skies, my dad was heading to work on his Suzuki BLVD C-90 cruiser as he usually did at around 2 pm. At 2:15 pm his life changed forever. A truck driver didn't see my dad on the motorcycle making his right of way down the street of Golden Lantern in Laguna Niguel, when suddenly a driver ran the intersection at a stop sign and hit my dad on his motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to land under the truck. The truck driver has no license or insurance.
My dad is now on life support, fighting for his life. He suffered severe internal injures: broken liver, broken intestine, five broken ribs, open book pelvis, fractured nose, stomach bleeding and severe brain trauma.
In 2005, my dad was diagnosed with diabetes. It was hard on our family at first, but we supported him with anything he needed. Diabetes affects the body because the body doesn’t create enough or if any insulin. As a result, it creates an abnormal metabolism carbohydrates and high levels of glucose in the blood and urine. My dad had been taking about 6-7 medications to control his diabetes. Since the accident, his blood sugar only rises higher and higher and as a result he has been receiving insulin to control it.
My dad finally awoke early this June and we are grateful. It’s something the neurologist said that couldn’t be done due to his severe brain injury. My dad is that 20% who woke up from an injury like his. He is now off the ventilator and is beginning to talk to his family.
Since being admitted to the hospital on May 8, he's had six surgeries. My dad stayed in the hospital for about two weeks until SICU decided it was time to discharge him to a Subacute long term care. My dad was the head of the household, and without him currently working, our health insurance will be terminated. We have less than a month until our medical insurance terminates my dad’s stay at this current location due to the fact that it only covers the first 100 days. After the 100 days pass, we have to pay out of pocket. The facility charges $600 PER DAY . That is $16,000 per month!! Our family cannot afford $16,000 but we need to for my dad to continue his recovery.
I am daddy's little girl, and he has always been there for his daughters no doubt about it. He never failed as a father. His daughters and wife want to repay him by providing the best care for him because he deserves that. My concern for his health is that he is diabetic and therefore his treatment makes everything more critical than a normal person. His hard work for his family never went unnoticed. We continue to pray for his health and for the day he fully recovers to go home to his wife and two daughters. I ask for everyone who reads this to please donate what you can, I need my dad in my life. He has so much more to experience with us. I ask for everyone's support and prayers because it surely is helping my dad recover. Please share the link. Thank you, we appreciate it! God bless!
