Our dad Keith was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (very rare brain disorder) on March 18. No idea how he contracted it. No treatment or cure. On February 4, he was taken to the hospital. His eyes were hurting (thinking he needed new glasses), dizzy and at times confused. They ran tests and said he had a stroke. As days went by, he continued to decline. On February 23 was taken to ER and more tests were ran. Said they didn’t think it was a stroke. At that time they mentioned CJD. We had never heard of it. At that time was transferred to another hospital that could actually diagnose the test. As more tests were ran, we wait for the unknown. We watch our loved one continue to decline. He was unable to walk, eat, see, swallow and not sure he knows us. Then we get the dreaded test. Positive for CJD. Our dad is dying. Then we were told no facility will take him without being on Medicare or Medicaid. He’s not old enough for Medicare. He has medical insurance but doesn’t cover his final care. Our dad deserves to be comfortable his last days.
