Help My Dad Get the Urgent Mental Health Treatment He Needs

Donation protected
When my dad was just 9, he found his mother after she had taken her own life as a result of her struggles with Bipolar. This moment shattered him — and for 51 years, he has lived in the shadows of that trauma and many others.

Hi, my name is Juliana Wiese, and I am creating this GoFundMe for my dad, Will, who has struggled for 51 years with severe untreated trauma and complex mental health illnesses that baffle psychologists and therapists alike.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Growing up, my dad was always physically present, however often mentally absent and disconnected—but over the years, I have watched him deteriorate even more. His body remained, but the person I knew changed. His sarcasm, his humor is—gone. The emotional disconnection I have experienced, created lasting scars. For my sister and I, it’s led to our own personal battles with pressing mental health challenges that we now work through with the support of full-time therapy. My mom, who has stood by his side for 22 years also struggles with her own pain and emotional burdens.

In recent years, my dad has become a shadow of his former self. Each day, he puts on a brave face—a mask to hide the pain and mental turmoil that consumes him. He fights to stay connected. He fights to breathe. He fights to live. But the truth is, his fight is quickly coming to an end the longer he remains untreated.

I must find a way to get him the help and support he urgently needs before it’s too late and we lose him and ourselves.

My father has been diagnosed with CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), severe Dissociative Disorders, BPD, Anxiety, Night Terrors, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). These diagnoses are not just words — they represent a lifetime of suffering, anger, isolation and more. My dad has fought every single day for 51 years just to survive. Unfortunately, he requires more than therapy and medication. He requires intensive, inpatient treatment — and he’s begging for it.

WHY I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP
In January 2024, we hired a Therapeutic Mental Health Consultant — one who specializes in helping find treatment for extremely complex psychological cases like my dad’s, where traditional therapy and medication aren’t enough.

Out of hundreds of facilities nationwide, only five specialize in treating CPTSD and dissociation to the degree that my dad requires. Of those five, just one would consider accepting insurance.

Despite a long, painful battle with our insurance company (involving state regulators, legislators, and legal help) to try and get him full coverage, Premera will only authorize $1,800 per day and the facility’s rate is $2,592 per day (5 day billing cycle). This would require the facility to lose $792 per day which they are not willing to do as that compromises the type of care they provide. The current coverage agreement expires on December 31, 2025. Once it expires, Premera said they will not authorize this amount again.

My dad needs a minimum of 90 days of inpatient treatment. That does not include:

• Additional treatment methods not covered by insurance while at the facility
• Airfare, hotel, and car rental for him and our family to visit him (the facility is in California; we’re in Washington)
• The cost of intensive outpatient treatment once he’s discharged from inpatient treatment

THE TOTAL COST & MY GOAL
I am asking for $40,000 to help cover:
• The $792/day gap in inpatient care
• Additional therapies and medications
• Outpatient, transitional care and housing after the initial 90 days
• Travel and lodging to visit and support him
• A future where my dad can finally begin to heal, feel our love, and see life in color

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Every single contribution — no matter how big or small — will be the difference between life and death. To bring my dad back and give him freedom from years of darkness and despair; to let him have a chance to see the world like everyone else, a world of color, not one of black and white.

If you can’t donate, please help by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and networks and ask them to share as well. GoFundMe automatically tracks progress through smaller milestones — and everyone of them is worth celebrating. Whether we’re at 10% or 90% funded, your support keeps this campaign moving forward. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with me and my family. You are giving my dad a chance at life for the first time.

With deep gratitude,
Juliana & Family
