Who is my dad?

Randy Newman is my father, a 61-year-old general contractor and father of seven. He’s spent his entire fatherhood focused on his family and generously helping others in time of need. Someone as selfless as him only comes around once in a lifetime. This GoFundMe is in hopes that the karma pendulum is about to swing back in his favor. He’s been self-employed for the last 27 years to support his wife and family. He’s always enjoyed his work, but he’s getting older and has needed to slow down in the last few years. His business is small, and he will essentially have to go without an income for the next year. We are asking for any help you can give. Every donation makes a difference; so, make sure to help support a great man by making a donation and, just as important, forward to your network of family, community, church, and friends.

What Happened?

Last Friday my dad was checking a skylight for leaks on a job site. The house is landscaped on a mountainside, so it’s two stories tall in the front and three in the back. My dad and the skylight were on the backside of the roof. He poured water on it to find the leak and slipped on the wet wood shingles. He quickly slid 40 feet to the edge of the roof continuously gaining momentum, and despite his efforts to stop sliding, he proceeded to fall off the roof and over 30 feet onto the concrete patio.

What were his injuries?

- Pneumothorax (punctured lung)
- Broke EVERY rib on his right side, many of which were shattered or broken in multiple places.
- Broken pelvis in three places
- Lacerated liver
- Broken L3 vertebrae

He had surgery on his ribs this last Saturday. They plated several of them, but the others will have to recover on their own. He will likely have surgery on his hip later this week.

What’s Next?

-    He will likely be in the hospital for a few weeks
-    After that, he will be moved to an in-patient physical therapy rehab center, where he will reside for two months or longer.
-    The standard timeline for receiving disability is a year if he’s lucky, but most likely two years.

Every donation makes a big difference; so, let’s come together and help out my dad by making a donation and sharing this link.
