Most people don’t know this, but last year, my world was turned upside down. My dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in his lymphatic system. It came out of nowhere, hitting our family like a freight train.
For someone who’s always been fit and healthy, it was a devastating shock. Watching someone you love face such a brutal battle is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Over the past year, my dad fought through countless rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It was gruelling, both physically and mentally. I was there, alongside my mum, taking him to most of his hospital appointments. The place that became almost a second home to us during this time was Oxford Hospital. Their care, support, and expertise were amazing.
And then, in January this year, we got the news we’d been praying for: he was given the all-clear. The treatment worked. It’s hard to describe the relief and joy that washed over us. A weight we didn’t even realise we were carrying finally lifted. My dad had beaten the odds—he’s a true fighter, and I’m in awe of his strength and resilience. I can only hope to be half the man he is.
But cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed—it shakes families, friendships, and entire communities. I’ve seen it in my own circle, watching friends go through similar struggles. That’s why I’m running the Valencia Marathon 2025: to give back to the incredible team at Oxford Hospital who supported us, and to help others facing the same nightmare we did.
Every penny raised will go towards helping Oxford Hospitals Charity continue their vital work, supporting patients and families through some of life’s toughest battles. If cancer has touched your life, or if you just believe in supporting an amazing cause, please consider donating. And if you’re going through something similar, my inbox is always open—you don’t have to face it alone.
