Hi, my name is Destiny and I’m raising funds to be able to care for my dad. On March 18th of 2024, my dad suffered a catastrophic stroke that left him in a coma and in the ICU for over a month. When he first had the stroke, the doctors told us he would likely never wake up or live a functional life. Today, he is slowly regaining his ability to speak, to eat and to move his limbs in the stroke unit. However, his left side now has severe paresis and nerve damage. The stroke also affected his eyesight and he is now legally blind.
The hospital wants to discharge him but they say he isn’t eligible for rehab and is offering us only 3 or 4 weeks of personal support and access to medical supplies from home. Once this time is up, I will have to pay for all his accessibility needs myself as my dad has no insurance. I left everything I had in Vancouver to take care of my dad and I’m jobless and running out of money to take care of myself alone. On top of this, I won’t be able to get a job in Toronto because my dad will need 24 hour care.
Here is a simple list of everything we will need to afford:
- Medications
- Physiotherapy
- Optometry
- Wheelchair
- Walker
- Hospital Bed
- Hoyer Lift
- Wheeled Commode
- Bath transfer bench
- Bath chair
- Mattress pad
- Blood Pressure Monitor
- Supplies such as diapers, wipes, barrier cream, etc…
What happened to my dad is devastating. He is only 55. My dad is my best friend and the best man you’ll ever meet. He’s so full of life and love and he deserves a happy life after fighting so hard to survive. I want to see him make a full recovery and the only way we can accomplish that is if he has access to the supplies and therapies neccesary.
If you could even pitch in 2 dollars it would make a difference. Thank you all for reading this far.
