This month, my dad passed away on his birthday a heartbreaking irony that still doesn’t feel real.

The past few weeks have been incredibly difficult. I hadn’t been able to see him in person for the last four years, and because he was in the final stages of cancer, I never got the chance to have one last meaningful conversation or say a proper goodbye. He was confused near the end, and that’s one of the hardest things for me to accept.

As if losing him wasn’t enough, our family has been dealing with ongoing conflict after his passing. There have been threats of legal action, and we’ve seen people show their greed during a time when we should be grieving together. Because of these disputes, his body has remained in the morgue for nearly two weeks, and he still hasn’t been able to rest peacefully.

I currently live in Thailand and don’t have the financial means to travel home or send enough money to help my family through this. I’ve never been someone to ask the internet or strangers for help, but today I’m putting my pride aside for my family and for my dad.
