My Climb to Healing

What if it’s nothing? What if it’s nothing to worry about? What if I’m overthinking it? These were my daily self-assurance thoughts that it was nothing and I was being the biggest drama queen on this side of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, the hard painful knot in my left breast was not the what if, it was the matter-of-fact moment that met me with a reality that snatched the air from my lungs and left me breathless for a few seconds.

On November 1, 2022, I learned that I had become a part of a club where no one was frantically waving hands or bursting through doors looking for anything pink. I had officially become a part of the Breast cancer club. An unfavorable club to say the least and one that comes with more heartache, pain and too many doctors’ visits to keep count of. These are just a few extra stressors that come with having cancer. The first two surgeries that removed the initial tumor and twenty-one rounds of radiation weren’t enough to keep the cancer at bay.

In May of 2023, I learned that the cancer had spread to my bones and spine. I underwent another surgery to place a steel rod in my femur to keep the bone from shattering from the damage the cancer had caused. This life-altering journey went left and fast. My daily regimen now includes taking daily chemo and hormone medication. The side effects are long-lasting.

Unfortunately, the pain, the medication and the side effects are married to the medical bills that come with the journey. This is where the village and its supporters make the difference in how difficult this climb will be. I’m asking for your support to make my climb to healing much easier.
