My Children’s Smiles

As many of you know El & Josh have had a long medical journey. Both have had Auto Islet Transplants Total Pancreactomy. This was done in attempts to reduce symptoms of their hereditary pancreatitis. Unfortunately both have had complications and deal with chronic pain, GI issues & type 3 diabetes. They daily deal with their medical issues. It’s been a struggle.
Because of their GI issues and the medications they have had to be on, their teeth have chipped & fallen out. They often get infected and have abscesses. I have attempted to address the issues with their teeth many times but what they need is to have them removed & get dentures. I have gone back & forth with insurance trying to get it covered medically but it’s been a battle. Even though we’ve had doctors write in chart that this is a medical issue. The work they need is costly and due to their other health issues and their care needs to be highly specialized care. I have attempted to figure out how I can get them fixed but have been unsuccessful.
My kids don’t smile anymore. They lack confidence and hate going out. It hurts my heart. Last week a situation occurred with one of my kids that brought me to the point of doing a GoFundMe to fix their teeth. I won’t go into what occurred but it was devastating & cruel & my daughter is more reluctant than ever to go out.
I desperately want to see my kids smile again. I also want to address the ongoing medical issues that are caused by oral health. During Josh’s recent bout with COVID the right side of his face became swollen. He indicated that it caused him no pain. I did bring him into walk in & he had an abscess. The doctor was surprised that my son was not in a great deal of pain.
Both kids have given my blessing to do this. It’s hard to do this but I miss my kids smiling. Their conference is destroyed. Thank you in advance.
