Hello all,
Thank you to everyone who donated to Poboobah's last fundraiser.
When my family and I got Poboobah the cat four years ago, we knew very little about her, not even knowing her age or medical history. Only recently did I even learn that Poboobah is at least 6 years old.
Within the first year of having her, we noticed a mass/cyst on her stomach/breast. It popped twice, which led us to believe it was acne, and that it had resolved itself. However, in the last year or so, the mass has returned and grown into a clump of masses/lumps. At the same time, Poboobah has lost weight, despite already having been extremely small.
We took her in for blood-work, which revealed a high thyroid, that we gave her medication for. Unfortunately she became very sick, and she lost her appetite completely.
While her most recent blood work results show the medication was effective in lowering her thyroid, we are concerned that her illness could have been related to her mass. Fortunately, an x-ray confirmed that the lumps/mass has not spread into her lungs or major organs, but 85-95% of feline mammary tumours are malignant, making it essential to remove her mass as soon as possible.
The best option for Poboobah is to get a radical chain mastectomy, to remove all of the mammary glands on the side of the mass. The estimate for her surgery is $2,734, which does not include the many vet appointments before the surgery, and after.
We cannot afford to pay for her surgery on our own as a single income household that already struggles to pay bills, and has relied on community resources to meet our needs. We love Poboobah and do not want her life to be cut short.
All money will go directly to Poboobah's surgery, vet bills, medications, or other related expenses.
Thank you.
