My cat Scarface needs radioiodine treatment

Donation protected
In November of 2020 I brought my 13 year old cat, Scarface, in for a check up and bloodwork.  When the blood results came back we found out he had hyperthyroidism.  It was determined that this was caused by a benign growth in his thyroid gland.  The growth causes his thyroid to over produce thyroid hormones T4 and T3 which cause his metabolism to become abnormally high.  We had noticed he had become quite skinny over the past year but didn't realize that the cause was so serious.  If left untreated the high levels of thyroid hormones in his system can affect all the organs in his body and most often results in death from heart conditions or kidney failure.  Luckily there is an actual cure for his condition; radioiodine treatment, which has a first time success rate of 98%!  Unfortunately it is very expensive ($2300 plus several blood tests bringing it close to $3000!) and only one place In Vancouver even offers the treatment.  The other option is medication for life which, aside from many negative possible side effects, will end up costing more than the radioiodine treatment in the long run due to all the accompanying regular blood tests needed for monitoring its effectiveness.

Scarface has been a great companion to me for over a decade now and I'd love to enjoy as many more years as possible together.  I'm able to put $500 towards his treatment and I'm hoping to raise the rest through the support of friends, family and maybe even a stranger or two :).
