My Cat Kiwi's Medical Bills

Hello, my name is Ali Houraibi, I am a Senior animation student at Lesley University, and I am raising funds to support my 3 year old cat Kiwi's medical bills. Kiwi was hit by a car on November 10, where he suffered significant injuries and blood loss from his skull and shoulder. After he was hit, he was rushed to an emergency Vet where they performed immediate care. The doctors managed to stabilize him, and luckily he survived. After staying there for two days in an oxygen box and IV, the doctor told me to take him to a specialty vet an hour from where I live for further intensive care as his condition was severely critical.

I brought him to this vet, where he stayed for four days; Kiwi suffers from a broken jaw which is now wired, a fractured left shoulder with talks about amputating his leg, blood loss, and various fractures on his skull and bruises on his organs. He is currently on a feeding tube and cannot be left alone for long periods of time.

Despite all of this, Kiwi remained strong and survived and will continue to have a good quality of life once he recovers. He does not seem to have suffered any brain damage; his breathing is normal at this stage. He is currently on a feeding tube, his jaw wired, and on heavy medication and antibiotics. We are waiting to see the prolonged effects with various checkups to ensure his road to recovery.

That being said, his current treatment has cost me 5,500 dollars from the various visits, overnight stays, medication and on-hand treatment, and travel costs. His cost of care will only increase with continued visits and checkups, as well as unforeseen complications due to his ongoing recovery.

Unfortunately, I am not eligible for a payment plan at this hospital, meaning I am currently paying the total cost upfront and out of pocket.

I have used my savings and have maxed out my credit cards. I'm currently applying for grants to see what money I can get for Kiwi.

I am reaching out to the broader community for financial assistance; I am under a lot of stress from paying not just for my college education out of pocket but also my household's sole provider. My family and I were unprepared for this sudden change in our financial situation. If you could please consider donating even 1 dollar, it would assist my family and I tremendously.

I refuse to give up on Kiwi, as he has endured all of this and is continuing to fight and survive. During our visits, Kiwi recognized and responded to us, trying to come closer to us. He remains overjoyed to be with my family and I, and I want to ensure he can continue to live a long and happy life. While Kiwi will never be the same, his quality of life will continue to be worth living.
