This is Leesa
Leesa is the no bullshit, straight talker who takes what life throws at her, dust herself off an keeps going She is also the lovera nimal lover, the protective mother and the cool Nan with tattoos and a Harley. Leesa raised three gorgeous children, Damian, Chelsie and Truman while working  in Aged Care. Although passionate about providing care and support to her elderly clients, when the time came that she was needed by her family, she took on the full-time care of her 4 grandchildren. Leesa is the woman who handles the hard knocks for her people, she is the one who has fundraised for people in need, she is the one whom her family an friends can count on, who provides the strength, the support and the love through the hard times. She does it all with a wicked sense of humour and a passion for life, spending her time camping, travelling our beautiful countryside and enjoying her family.

As tough as Leesa is, she is now faced  with an even tougher road ahead of her. Leesa has been experiencing headaches for around 2 years, at the time, her Doctor putting it down to stress related migraines . Things took a turn in August this year. Leesa was supporting her son, Truman, through an operation in Toowoomba when she woke up with numbness on her entire left side, at the same time, Truman experienced a complication from the operation, she put her symptoms aside to focus on Truman and his recovery. The numbness increased in severity over the next couple of days until she was unable to walk, she was admitted to Toowoomba Public Hospital on the 12th of August and the tests began.

The first CT scan showed two sizeable tumours on her brain. With this news Leesa returned home to Inverell, ensuring her family was able to be a part of this journey. Leesa’s next CT scan on the 19th of August showed significant lesions on her lungs, she was flown to John Hunter. Leesa’s symptoms had increased rapidly during this time and culminated when the largest of the brain tumours began haemorrhaging. Leesa was immediately transported to Prince of Wales Hospital where Dr Charlie Teo performed surgery, removing the tumours from the right frontal lobe.

The biopsy results return a diagnosis of Melanoma Grade 4. As of the most recent PET scan on the 17th of September, there are tumours present in the throat, chest, lung and liver.

Leesa will be receiving treatment every 3 weeks at the Armidale Hospital, with a monthly PET Scan. The doctor’s might have thrown around the word Terminal meaning the goal of treatment to reduce the size of the tumours, increasing Leesa’s time with her family.

Every contribution is greatly appreciated, every single one takes a worry away from Leesa and her family. With every worry taken away, a new moment is created for Leesa to spend with her children, grandchildren, family and the community that loves her.

Leesa’s daughter Chelsie will be managing the fundraising for the family and providing updates.

The family urgently requires support to pay the $42000 from Leesa’s Brain surgery so this is our initial target and where any funds that are raised will go.

Being from a remote area, the ongoing costs of accommodation, transport, tests, treatment will be what any additional funds will be allocated to.
