In case you don't already know how much my brother Richard Faber (Rick) means to me, I can sum it up in one word- EVERYTHING! By now you probably already know about the health challenges my brother’s been going through for 3 ½ years. We are glad to report that his spirits remain high. He is hopeful that he will receive new lungs this year and he continues to motivate himself to attend physical therapy 5 days a week. He is my hero, my champion, and my example of how to keep it moving in spite of how your mind or body may feel. He has truly shown our family how to persevere through difficult and life changing times. But he hasn't done it alone.
His wife Crystal has been instrumental in educating the family on his diagnosis with information and updates from his team of lung transplant specialists, asking various questions during his appointments in my absence, and by staying awake during the early morning hours to make sure his oxygen tube remains connected to help him breathe while he sleeps. Rick’s sons have been supportive and compassionate while adjusting to the physical limitations associated with his condition. They’ve made sacrifices and have taken on additional responsibilities that have propelled them from boys to men. Rick is so proud of each of them for coming into their own and looks forward to seeing where life will take them. Our mother, Wynell McClung, continues to travel up and down the road from MD to NC to check on him and on the doctors. She has never stopped praying for his health to be fully restored and earnestly believes my brother will be the miracle who walks out of hospital pain and oxygen-free, baffling the doctors for years to come. But for all the days gone by and those ahead, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt it is God’s grace, mercy and favor that has and will keep him, and that we are incredibly blessed to have each other.
I am writing you to ask for your support to help me raise $15,000 for medical expenses not covered by his insurance leading up to and for my brother’s post double-lung transplant surgery. The combined Disability income my brother and his wife receive monthly exceed the maximum income eligibility requirements (by less than $75) that would otherwise qualify them for assistance with daily living expenses, out of pocket health insurance premiums, and prescription co-pays. In addition, the hospital’s financial coordinator must be able to verify that a lung transplant recipient is able to obtain all post-surgery medications, assistive devices or aides for up to two years following surgery. (Furthermore, funds are necessary for related expenses, regardless of the fact that we have identified pharmaceutical companies and foundations that may make a commitment to provide medication and/or resources.)
On March 31st Rick will turn 57 years old. With your generosity, I’m confident we can reach our goal and assure him this will be the best year yet! Because of your calls, prayers and support our family has the opportunity to make and cherish more memories with my big brother! For that, I say THANK YOU~
Love, Deborah
