This is a story of love, triumph, joy & now heartbreak.
My sister Nicole met the love of her life 3 years ago. They have created an incredible life together.
One month ago Mike was having a hard time keeping food down. I went to stay with him and my sister. When I saw him I knew things were bad - he’d lost 40 lbs in 4 weeks. I began To do the one thing I know well that is to cook for him. Puree soup is what was on the menu, soup with healing foods.
For the 1st time in weeks he no longer threw up after eating.
While I was there he underwent testing & he was given the diagnosis of Esophageal Cancer, stage 3. A large tumor is blocking the entrance to the stomach.
My sister & Mike have continued to cook and Mike has gained back some weight. They are participating in his wellness.
But, now the insurance has denied him and say that this is a pre-existing condition. Not sure how that can be because we knew nothing of him having cancer until the tests.
He is required to pay upwards of thousands of dollars each time he goes in for chemo or radiation. Nicole works and Mike owns his own electrician company. But, twice a week at 4,000 a week they can’t do.
A couple weeks ago they decided to get married. Within day a wedding was planned at our good friends house on the water. I gave my sister away to a great man. My sister found love and I found a brother.
We prayed, we cried, we sang, we danced and those of us that can eat ate. I understand what it is to suffer and not be able to eat - it is heart breaking to watch my sister now witness another of her loved ones not eat and suffer.
Mike is undergoing a procedure today to place a feeding tube in his abdomen.
I am asking you all to help us. To help Mike cover the expenses.
I have seen what community can do in Pinewood and I am calling on this same community YOU to help my Brother, My Sister..My Family.

I promise you I will continue to feed those that have no money to eat in my restaurant, I promise you I will continue to shine happiness and joy into the world. I promise you I will do my part to help Mike eat his way to wellness and I will continue to serve with a servants heart.
I have crawled on my knees to the basilica of Guadalupe to pray for my wellness and now I bow down in front of you all in ask of support.
