My brother grew up with us in very humble beginnings. Our family has always faced hardship, but when my sisters and I moved to Canada, he was left behind to build a life of his own.

Today, that life has been shattered. Hurricane Melissa has completely devastated his home. His roof is gone. His furniture, appliances, and most of his possessions have been destroyed. He and his partner are now struggling to care for their three children — including a 10-month-old baby boy — with no shelter, food, or clean water.

Ironically, this isn’t the first time tragedy has struck. Years ago, during Hurricane Gilbert, my mother and brother also lost their roof. She often recalls sitting in the roofless house with my brother in her arms as rain poured in. To see history repeat itself for him now breaks our hearts.

While we are far away in Canada, we cannot stand by helplessly. We are asking for your kindness and compassion to help my brother and his family get back on their feet. Every dollar raised will go toward shelter, food, water, and basic necessities for them.
