Hi everyone,
I have been contemplating doing this for about a year now due to having a hard time asking for help even when it’s not about me.
My brother, Brian was diagnosed with MS about 20 years ago and unfortunately in the last 2 years he has declined greatly.
Last week I brought him to his appointment with his neurologist to get the results for his latest scans. Sadly he has developed more liaisons on his brain and new liaisons on his spine which of course is extremely upsetting.
Cognitively he is having a hard time comprehending all of this and my mother and I are doing everything we can to help him with making the best decisions for him.
He was terminated from his job almost a year ago and was denied for social security which I am currently working on the appeal now. I have put him on many housing lists and just recently was able to get him approved for food stamps, a total of 365.00 monthly which for now is as good as they are able to do. I also did get him approved for a discount rate for his utilities and have them put him in a medical emergency preventative shut off.
The major problem as of today is his landlord is not very sympathetic regarding the whole situation and his rent is close to 1300.00 monthly. That is the main issue right now to prevent him from losing his current home situation.
We are hoping to be able to relocate him closer to our parents in Florida after the winter months and after we straighten out all his medical needs.
If you do decide to share this post or do discuss this with anyone who does know my brother I would really appreciate it if you did not mention this to him right now. He’s having a hard time as it is with accepting the help he has been getting from my mother and I and I know he would be pretty embarrassed about people knowing this but in the end I’m sure he will be eternally grateful.
Thank you everyone for reading all of this and please keep my brother in your prayers.
