Hey Y'all! Great news!
I was recently notified that I am approved to compete in a Black Beauty pageant in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in January 2018!
The pageant, Noite da Beleza Negra , is organized by Ilê Aiyê . Ilê Aiyê is one of Brazil's oldest and most famous Afro-Brazilian, neighborhood-based socio-cultural organizations. As a component of its outreach, the Noite da Beleza Negra was designed to encourage "...self-esteem in the black community of Salvador and spread Afro-Baiana culture to the most diverse points in the world." The Noite da Beleza Negra, does this by focusing on the exaltation of Black women.
Why is this important to me? I am the FIRST international contestant to be approved to compete in this event! This is MAJOR! The media in Bahia is just as excited as I am! That said, most of the contestants are local and are able to mobilize with less effort since they usually live in or near the city. Since I'm not, anything less than 6-months notice is really short.
I need to be in Salvador by January 5, 2018!
In the lead-up to Noite da Beleza Negra on January 20, 2018, there will be trainings, classes, workshops, and media events.
Your monetary donation will be used to cover the cost of these expenses:
1. Air transportation
2. Ground transportation
3. Food and lodging
4. Competition materials (costuming, makeup, hair, etc.)
5. Travel insurance
6. Communication and Documentation
7. Additional expenses
