My book Project for Primary schools in London

Hi, My name is Dara and I am 13 years old. I started writing a book when I was 9 years old and by the time I was 11, it was published! School Friendship Solutions was published on 28th February 2021. It has since been available both online and at bookshops including Amazon, Waterstones, Blackwells, Goodreads, Rhbooks, Troubador, Apple and eBay.

I have a goal that I want to reach on 28th February 2023, the second anniversary of my book publication.

As a child myself, I understand the struggles of feeling lonely at school, all at different severity. some children feel apprehensive about talking to new people and starting a conversation in new environments. Recent studies have shown that 14% of children ages 10 to 12 years said they were often lonely (Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, 2020). This may seem like a small percentage, but imagine the number of children who were possibly ashamed of the fact and did not want to admit it- we'll never know. Classes can be quite big in primary schools, but if you feel disconnected from your peers, you would feel upset and alienated and that you don't fit in. Loneliness is, in fact, not feeling connected to those around you, not that you don't have people around you.

My book teaches self-confidence, how to find friendships and how to adjust to a new environment. Amy, the main character, who was in year 5, moved to a new school. she was a confident and happy young girl but a student there was unwelcoming to her. This made her feel upset, angry and confused. Two other students there were kind and friendly and made her feel better about not knowing anyone. Together, they made Amy's first 2 months in the term enjoyable and memorable.

I want to help every child in every primary school in London tackle bullying and loneliness with a fictional book written entertainingly by someone their age.

My project is to send 2 books to every primary school in London of which according to records, 2,115 primary schools serve 774,884 students for the school year 2022/23.
