Hi everyone. My name is Nikki (Nicolette if you knew me when I was a baby). I have an amazing big brother named Mikel who means the world to me. He protected me and kept me safe when I was a little girl and we had no one else. We were separated countless times because of the adults in our lives but we have always managed to stay so close, even if far apart. I am so so proud of him and who he is; my brother, a devoted husband, loving father of 3 and a hardworking man.

Unfortunately Mikel was just admitted to hospital in the United States, where he took a job in 2024, with extreme back pain and loss of feeling and movement in one arm. Much rapid testing later, it has been found that he has a herniated disc which is putting pressure on nerves and his spinal cord which is also causing him to lose mobility in one arm. His care team has scheduled an emergency surgery for tomorrow, as long term damage is likely if it is not corrected immediately.

It is expected that if everything with the surgery goes well, he will be away from work for at least 3 weeks. The surgery itself is expected to be $200,000. They have medical insurance but it is not full coverage and they will have to pay a minimum amount towards the cost. This coupled with his lost wages for the weeks not able to work will be an immense burden on their family amounting to approximately $28,000.
