My Best Friend’s Fight & Her Unwavering Hope

Hi, my name is Macy, and I have the absolute privilege of calling Elizabeth my best friend. If you know her, you know she is one of the kindest, most resilient and loving people in the world. She has always been the one lifting others up, spreading joy in and out of the classroom and making life brighter for everyone around her. But now, she and her husband, Eric, are facing a challenge no one should have to go through.

Elizabeth has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. After undergoing brain surgery and having a piece of her brain retrieved, doctors confirmed that, thankfully, the tumor is not cancerous. But what shocked us all was learning that this tumor has likely been there since she was a child—growing slowly, silently, until now. It has only just started to affect her, causing symptoms such as a type of silent seizure. To manage the brain tumor, she must start a medication that will “pause” the tumor’s growth. But this treatment comes with an unimaginable cost—it will take away her and Eric’s ability to have a baby naturally.

If you know Elizabeth and Eric, you know they’ve always dreamed of being parents. While this diagnosis has changed their journey, it hasn’t changed their dream. They have made the courageous decision to have a baby through surrogacy, holding onto hope that their love story will still lead them to the family they’ve always wanted.
