Hello everyone!
My name is Daniel Tinajo, and I am ready to tell my story.
As I said, I am Daniel, born in 1997, in a little town in Spain. Born to a loving mother, who gave me and continues to do all she can for me. She is my lifeline and the reason why I am here. For many years, actually, 18 years, I was a "normal" kid. Always active and energetic, soccer player (and really good at it), good friend, good brother to my little princess and my annoying little man, always quick with a joke, and the life of the party.
But one day, as nobody could have foreseen, all that changed in a matter of seconds. As I guess Life had other plans for me. On December 31, 2015, I went into cardiac arrest for the first time, for 20 minutes. Nobody knew what was happening. EMS services were called and I was rushed to Jackson Hospital. There, Life one more time let me down, as I had a second cardiac arrest in the Emergency Room of the hospital. And, to be sure that my existence as I knew it was not longer going to be the same, I had a third cardiac arrest when all efforts were being done to intubate me and save from those two previous ones.
I was in coma for close to 28 days. When I woke up, I was a different Daniel. But my mother was the same, and as I could have predicted, she did all that she could and more to keep me alive and safe. Even when doctors recommended on the contrary. She kept her faith that I would recover and one day recognize her.
And Life had the courtesy of giving this one to her, as I did. And I always smile when I see her. She is my guardian angel on this Earth.
But I am bedbound. The brain damaged caused by the lack of oxygen to the brain, left me unable to do anything for myself. I need help with every little activity of the day. From feeding, to bathing, to brushing my teeth, with every one of those little things we take from granted being able to do on our own.
My condition is: I live in my bed, and my bed is my house. And would really appreciate the help in trading up for a better one. One, that would allow my mother and my caregivers to turn me easily in bed, as to prevent ulcers. One that would allow me to seat better and more comfortably to laugh at whatever thing I am watching on the TV. One that would make my life easier and with a better quality of life. That is one of the few luxuries to which I can aspire to. I am not asking for a ton of money, but hospital beds, specially the good ones, tend to be on the expensive side of things. So, all help, for as little as it may seem, will be greatly appreciate it.
