My beautiful mum, Janet

Hi, my name is Courtney and I’m fundraising on behalf of my amazing mum Janet. My mum had been struggling for months and as a family, we had tried to support her as much as possible but it all became too much for her. On the 21st May, Janet was admitted into Royal Oldham Hospital on the ICU, with severe pneumonia. My dad, Martin was also admitted the week before from his care home. 

Once she was admitted, we found out the pneumonia had become sepsis and was extremely serious. My mum was completely sedated, with a ventilator helping her breathing and on medication to support her heart, kidneys and lungs. She was showing signs of both heart failure and kidney failure which seemed to stabilise, until it didn’t. 

On the 25th May, Janet’s birthday, my brother got a phone call to get all the family together. Myself, Liam and my mums brother were all taken into a room, to be told her condition had massively deteriorated over night and become untreatable. Her heart was failing and her medication to support it had doubled, her kidneys had completely failed and her lungs struggling. Later that day, her breathing tube and all medication was turned off and she died at 4:50pm on her 60th birthday, surrounded by all her loving family and close friends.

Due to the nature of my mums death and how sudden it was, we as a family had no plans in place for insurance or funeral cover as we never expected to be in this position. So for that reason, myself and my family would all be so grateful for any contribution that can be made to this fundraiser, and all funds will go to support Janet’s funeral and all arrangements to make sure my beautiful mum has the best send off we could possibly give her.
