I never thought this would ever happen.

On Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, I was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). As soon as I received the news, I wasn't even able to think about it. The doctor said that I had to be admitted to the hospital for induction chemotherapy for 30 days as early as Thursday, in the same week. I asked if I could have a little more time to contact my work, get ready for my hospital stay, explain to my daughter that I will be gone for a while, & contact my family and friends about the recent news.

When telling who I had to tell, it was impossible for me to even say the words without becoming emotional. To explain to your loved ones that you now have leukemia type of cancer and not sure what was gonna happen next broke my heart every time. It felt like a negative energy was dropped into the conversation. How can you stay positive after that? After telling a few people, I couldn't handle it and gave up repeating myself. So, I just let my mom and whoever else knew about it at the time spread the news for me. I'm sorry if you found out through the grapevine rather than myself but I couldn't.

After sharing the news, preparation for the hospital felt surreal. I'm getting chemotherapy. Never thought that would happen. I was going to be a resident at the hospital for the next 30 days. My life is coming to a halt but I want to trust this process and hoping for the best results.

People were contacting us and gifting us wonderful things to help with our hospital stay. That was so sweet and we couldn't be more grateful. The love & support that was shown during this difficult time really blew our minds. I never realized how much people just want to simply help.
