Dear Family and Friends,
Sometimes there is news that is hard to share, but I have been encouraged to do so.
In May 2016 I was diagnosed with stage four throat and tonsil cancer. I decided to receive treatment at Moore’s Cancer Center in San Diego California, which is one of the top cancer research hospitals in the country. Therefore, the best place for me to go for my type of cancer. This also happened to be where my daughter lives, so we set up a little “granny flat” for me to have a comfy and quite space for me during treatment and recovery for 5 months. Since then I have had to continue to commute back-and-forth from AZ to CA for follow up appointments and testing.
Unfortunately, in September 2017 a repeat PET scan showed that my cancer had metastasized to my right lung. In January 2018 another scan showed that the cancer had grown and it was recommended that I get the tumor removed. On February 2, 2018 I had the upper segment of my right lung removed.
At the beginning of June another scan showed that the cancer was back and was moving aggressively in the same upper right part of my lung. So my battle continues along with more traveling and more time spent in CA. I go back on July 12 for another scan. Should it showed that the cancer has stayed in that area then they will be able to schedule me for radiation treatments starting the end of July or early August.
I have been told by family and friends that it is time to humble myself and ask everyone for help in another way. As you may know medical costs surrounding cancer treatment can be significant and insurance is not always sufficient to cover all the expenses and there is a sizable gap. Even once in California my daughter’s home is still about 2 to 3 hours round trip, depending on traffic, from the Moore’s cancer center. For this treatment alone I will have to make that drive five days a week for 4 weeks. So, I will also have a lot of expense in gas getting me to and from treatment and possible repairs to my 17-year-old car. After the battle so far and the battle to come, total expenses are now overwhelming my small income.
Therefore, I am setting up this “GoFund Me” account. I am asking for a bit of help from anyone able to give. Every little bit helps, but more than the finances, please say a prayer for me that God will send me the resources I need during this challenge in my life.
Thank you to all who are reaching out to me with positive thoughts and prayers and to my family who has already helped me in so many ways. May God‘s blessing be upon you.
May the joy and love of Jesus Christ be with you each and every day.
Judy
