Michael Burgett passed away on September 30, 2023 of pancreatic cancer.
Life hands you a bag of (something) ; You did not ask for it, it does not smell nice, doesn’t look like something you would want, but it is yours – so you open it up and find it is just soil. The foundation on which something beautiful might grow!!!!
MY BAG - Pancreatic Cancer.
- The fundraiser asks to set a goal , I wish they allowed for a message box not just a monetary number. My goal is survival and this moment in time becoming a distant memory. Fortunately I presented with symptoms in the beginning of August , that led to some blood work , emergency imagining at the local hospital on Monday August 8 and the admittance to Unity Hospital in Rochester , NY August 9.
- At this point I would like to recognize the amazing care and above board treatment I have received from all the nurses , medical support staff , doctors , specialists , and my NP who recognized the urgency of my situation. Without them and their dedication to their profession - my perspective might not be so positive. While in the hospital ,more tests were run , consults giving , and time to reflect. At this point I am in some what disbelief ; there is conflicting data , I feel great , my blood work earlier in the year was perfect , this is a misdiagnosis , and must be something else. Letting go to blind trust has never been easy for me , reality and acceptance did not set in till the morning of 9/12 before my scheduled general surgery to have the port installed and chemo to begin the next morning. If you know anything about pancreatic cancer , it is aggressive and the treatment can be equally aggressive if not more. Optimism remains though ; through early detection , first rounds of chemotherapy , a surgical option early next year , followed by another round of chemotherapy. I remain steadfast in the belief I will come out the other side of this cancer free and personally a better person.

Any support giving whether it be monetarily, a kind word , a fond memory, just sharing this with others, or a story you'd like to share is greatly appreciated and will only help me realize my true goal.
