My amputee mother make it back into her home.

Mom go find me

Back in 2019 I got a text message from my mother telling me she was going to the hospital and it wasn’t that big a deal. 10 months and 11 surgeries later she returned home with an amputation above her knee and a lot of work ahead of her. The only thing between her and a return to her home were 16 steps. When she first came back in 2020 she learned to conquer those 16 stairs.

Fast forward to Saturday February 17, 2024. At around 9 AM. A giant chestnut oak tree came crashing down through my mom‘s house right over top not her living room, but the bedroom she was fast asleep in. As she woke She realized she was pinned to her bed by a beam that the tree had brought down, pinning her a good leg to the bed, preventing her from moving.

By the grace of God and the skills of the Polk County fire Department, and EMS, the beam was cut away from her. She was strapped and pulled through the window.

The insurance will be covering the repairs to the home as she continues physical therapy. The feedback from the doctors that she should not be taking the trek of those 16 stairs any longer. In order to make this happen, we need to replace the old wooden garage door with a new door and automatic opener so she can get her car in the garage and a chairlift that can take her up the stairs of the basement to the main floor of her home. Unfortunately, ADA has no grants for such a situation, and the insurance is only covering damages, in order for my mother to reunite herself with her home of 30 years she needs your help
