Hello everyone!
My name is Courtney and I have created this GoFundMe Page for my daughter, Savannah (or Savi as her friends and family call her).
Savi recently completed her freshman year at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been attending the College of Chemistry. She has worked incredibly hard to be here and, as a Mother, I could not be more proud of my amazing daughter. This past year is the first time that Savi has been out in the world on her own, facing new challenges, curious and excited about what is possible in this new chapter of her life.
Finals concluded last week and all the kids were moving out of the dorms this past weekend. Needless to say, it was a virtual whirlwind of activity of all the people moving about getting boxes and bags of possessions into vehicles. It was neat to see families banding together to celebrate the accomplishment of another year dedicated to learning and growing.
We were in that whirlwind. I flew up to Berkeley from San Diego that morning, rented a car, and headed to campus. We successfully got all of her things (please see a pretty complete list below) into several suitcases and bags.
After leaving campus we stopped at a Safeway supermarket in Berkeley to get something to drink and go to the bathroom. It was around 5:00 p.m. and we parked on the rooftop parking lot... there were lots of cars and people everywhere. We felt safe.
We came back to the car to discover that two of the windows had been shattered and all of our things were gone. I looked at my Daughter and saw complete shock, horror and deflation in her eyes. All of her lifelong treasured possessions were gone. We were left with "now what?" Well, we need to return this rental car and get to the airport to figure out how to get Savi through TSA and onto an airplane with no I.D. (her wallet and all I.D. were taken).
We made it through TSA after a very helpful crew of folks worked to verify her identity and grant her access. She was a rockstar going through multiple interviews. She slept on the plane ride home... it was a long day.
We know that she will not be able to replace the memories associated with her childhood possessions. What we are seeking to replace are the practical items that she uses every day for school, work and her personal life. Savi and I are asking you to contribute to Savi and her continued drive to thrive in her life.
List of items to be replaced: laptop computer, IPAD, headphones, backpack, underwear, socks, shoes, toiletry, hair tools, jewelry, make-up, school supplies, dorm supplies.
I am so proud of my daughter and the powerful young woman she has become. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and love.
