My #2Mom has cancer
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Lindsey, and my #2Mom, Linda, has been diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer (my moniker for her is a life-long, endearing, inside joke <3; I am lucky enough to not only have four parents, but be close to all of them).
In standard Murphy's Law fashion, my step-mom's medical situation started developing in the period of time after being covered by health insurance through her husband's (my dad's) employment, yet before her new individual insurance plan began on September 1st of this year.
My Louisiana-parents are on a fixed income. They have worked hard all their lives to finally get to this place: the glory of retirement. But as it is known to do, the universe has other plans. Instead of traveling along the Appalachian mountains, camping with their bicycles and their dogs, they are literally fighting for her life. While many of Linda's chemo treatments, hospital stays, doctor's appointments, and physical/occupational therapies are occurring since September 1st, and therefore (hopefully) mostly covered by her new insurance, several of these instances occurred in August, before she received a diagnosis, and before her new insurance plan took effect.
This Gofundme page is my attempt at keeping this healthcare emergency from bankrupting my parents in retirement. The bills that have arrived for dates of service in August are already totaling over $25,000. I can assure you that my parents have helped many along their way through life, and would never have dreamed needing it themselves. We appreciate every penny offered, and every share of their story.
