100k Sahara Desert Trek ️

In May this year, our world changed when our son was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Nothing can prepare you for hearing those words. Since then, our family has been navigating a journey we never imagined we would face.

Along the way, we have seen an extraordinary amount of kindness, compassion and support. Charities supporting children with cancer and their families make such a difference during what can be one of the hardest times imaginable.

That is why I have decided to (nervously) take on this fundraiser and push myself outside of my comfort zone, just like my boy, and all the other children battling disease.

I wanted to find a way to give something back and to help other children and families facing childhood cancer.

In March 2027, I’ll be taking on the 100k Desert Trek to raise funds for The Azaylia Foundation, a charity established to honour the life and legacy of Azaylia Cain. Like many others, I followed her journey daily through the stories posted by her parents. She stole my heart, and I remember thinking how strong the family were at the time, and how brave they continue to be. Their journey is an inspiration to others going through similar circumstances.

The Azaylia Foundation is dedicated to providing crucial family support, championing the voices of patients and families, and helping children access treatment options that may not be available on the NHS.

Every mile I walk across the Sahara is for the children and families facing challenges far greater than any trek.

We hope that our boy will continue steadily along his treatment pathway, which will allow me to take on and complete this trek in March ‘27. However, childhood cancer can be unpredictable, and if at any point he needs my care or support, he will always come first.

Should his treatment or circumstances change and I am unable to take part as planned, I hope everyone will understand that my priority must, and always will be, my son and his wellbeing.
