Our lives were turned upside down just a few days ago when our 4-year-old daughter Kali was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer that has spread to her lungs.

It all started when I noticed a mass while feeling her belly Sunday night and brought her into the ER at 2AM. Even though all her labs were normal, I pushed for more tests, and that’s how we found out about the large tumor on her kidney that had already spread to her lungs. Since then, it’s been pure chaos with a hospital stay, a surgery to place her port and take out a chunk of her tumor for biopsy, and she will be starting chemotherapy within the next few days. After a couple of rounds of chemo, they will do surgery to remove her entire left kidney and the tumor before continuing with more rounds of chemo. She will also need radiation to her abdomen and lungs at some point in between the chemo and surgery.

Kali has shown a strength that’s beyond her years. She still tries to smile, still bosses me around with her little attitude, and tells me to stop being dramatic and rolls her eyes when she catches me crying. We have 5 other children at home who need us. Neither I nor my husband can work right now one as one of us always has to be at the hospital with Kali, and the other has to be home caring for our other kids.

We’re going to try so hard not to risk losing everything at home for our other children, but at the same time, we have to be by Kali’s side through every step of this fight. That’s why we’re asking for help to cover her medication co-pays, travel to and from the hospital, and our household bills so we can keep some stability for our other kids during this nightmare.
