My mother, Sharon Bickford, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in late 2014. We first noticed that something was wrong when my mom began to slur her speech.  It started off as an occasional thing, but then became more common, and eventually, other people started to notice. It was at this point she decided to seek medical attention.

It would be just about a year - filled with tests, appointments and uncertainty, before my mom would receive her ALS diagnosis.  It's one we all wish she didn't receive.

Now if you know my mom, then you understand how amazing of a person she is.  If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, then let me try to explain. Words cannot fully express how  independent, fiery, and stubborn she is( love you mom, but it's true). I think these qualities have greatly served her in the face of this diagnosis. She has fought to maintain her independence, and lead as normal a life as possible, only retiring from work a few weeks ago. She also has amazingly silly sense of humor, and a heart completely opposite of the Grinch, three sizes too big.  Even in the face of this horrible disease, she continues to live life on her own terms.

So the goal of this fundraiser is to help my mom continue to live life on her terms. She is insistent that she be able to live out her life in her own home, so the funds from this will go to make the house handicap accessible.

We (Tyler and Felicia) thank you so much for your willingness to help our Mom. In doing so, you not only help her, but also help the whole family shoulder some of this load.
