Hi everyone,

Early this week, my treasured cat Tink broke his foot. He is going into orthopaedic surgery as I write this post. Without this operation, he won’t be able to heal properly, walk normally, or live without constant pain; a fate for him that I cannot accept and will do anything to change. Luckily, his vet is an absolute angel—a “care for critters now, worry about money tomorrow” kind of doctor. The clinic has been incredibly patient with me as I navigate this situation.

(Shout out to North Burnaby Pet Hospital for prioritizing pets over profits—the quote I received for Tink’s care from another clinic was $8-10k)

The surgery taking place today is $4,000, and afterwards he’ll need two months of weekly follow-up vet visits to change his bandages, monitor his healing and ensure that he has many happy, healthy and mobile years ahead of him. Altogether, the cost of care will be over $5,000.

I’m hoping to raise at least half of this—$2,500—to help cover his medical expenses. Any amount will help to alleviate the financial pressure on myself and my family during this time.

(Second shout out to parents of all kinds—how do you love something so fiercely and not completely lose your mind when something bad happens to them?)

I adopted Tink (Tank, Tinky Winky, Bubba, Big Belly Man—cat of many names) when he was five, and he has spent the nearly five years since as my best friend and greatest comfort. He is a sweet and gentle giant; chatty, curious, affectionate and goofy. Shaped like a Hershey’s kiss. A converter of, “I don’t like cats” people, myself included. #1 Birdwatcher and big fan of perching himself on the very corner of any tall surface while staring down at you like the world’s most adorable and discerning church gargoyle.
