We're raising money in aid of Huntington's Disease Association and every donation will help.

In 2021 our family was struck with some life changing news that Huntington's Disease ran in our family. A disease that ourselves hadn't heard of, or knew anything about, yet it flipped our lives upside down.

Huntington's Disease (known as HD for short) is hereditary and affects the central nervous system and is currently incurable. The disease is caused by a faulty gene passed through families; each child of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting it. HD is a progressive degenerative disease which in time attacks most of the nerve cells in the brain. The disease cruelly affects speech, swallowing, eating and especially walking, eventually leaving the affected person unable to walk, talk or eat.

The cognitive changes affect problem solving, making decisions, prioritising, organising new things, remembering a fact or putting thoughts into words, or simply just answering a question. The cognitive changes get worse as the disease progresses, until people with HD are not able to work, drive or care for themselves.

In a bid to stay positive we as a family are organising a charity event to raise money for the HDA, and to try to aid research and ultimately find a cure!
