In Mid-October, my brother-in-law, Gary Young (GR), received the worst news of his life; he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It had come on so quickly. It started with jaundice, and he had severe itching. My sister took him to the doctor, and they ran tests that later showed that he would need to have his gallbladder removed. The next day, he went into surgery and had the mass removed. He stayed overnight in the hospital and went home the next day. After two days, jaundice and itching came back. My sister took him back to the hospital and transferred him to St Vincent's Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. The doctors used a scope to see if any gallstones were stuck. They were unable to find any, which resulted in a biopsy on his pancreas and liver. A day later, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They referred him to a surgeon, and she recommended a Whipple procedure. By undergoing this procedure, his life could be prolonged by 18 to 24 months. About a week later, he underwent the procedure. It was a success; however, his blood pressure and heart rate were abnormally high. The doctors took him back into surgery due to internal bleeding. They inserted a catheter through his groin and found the location of the bleeding. The bleeding came from an artery leading to his bowels, so they inserted a coil to stop the bleeding. He is currently being sedated and intubated. This campaign, your prayers, and any contributions will help the Young Family relieve some stress with medical bills and everyday expenses. Any contributions will allow the family to focus on what is necessary: staying strong for GR.
