Dr. O’Connor’s Battle with Lung Cancer
Dr. Clifford G. O’Connor is a great physician and educator, who has spent most of his life as a positive influence in the lives of many students, patients and colleges in his chosen field of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. O’Connor also completed many Medical Mission Trips to his native Jamaica and has dedicated his life to Ministry and helping others. It is at this time that I ask for your help to raise money for his treatment and continued medical expenses. He is currently unable to work or see any of his patients and quickly began to amass a great financial burden.
Clifford was diagnosed with Metastatic Adenocarcinoma of the Lung in November of 2014. The disease was insidious in onset and the first symptoms began as a pain in his left groin following a bout of exercise. Following many diagnostic studies, a paraspinal mass was discovered on Clifford’s lower left back and within the psoas muscle. The mass began to compress neurovascular structures and grew more painful each day.
The mass was biopsied and found to be a secondary lesion from what was identified as metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung. As the lesion grew Clifford lost function of his left lower extremity and began ambulating with a walker and eventually a wheelchair. This man who spent his life’s work treating and healing afflictions of the lower extremity is now presented with an ailment of his own.
Since his diagnosis, Clifford and his medical team at the University of Miami have decided to initiate aggressive Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy. Now the cancer is advancing. His breathing is challenged and he requires non-invasive ventilation and supplemental oxygen to maintain respiration.
Clifford needs to know that he is not alone as he fights for his life. The cancer is strong but Clifford’s faith in God is stronger. The disease has spread, but the love of his family and friends will cover over every inch of him as he goes through this troubled time. He has an extremely long road ahead of him and will need many prayers for the travel.
