My name is Dillon Forret, partner to my dearest Kaitlin Mettel.
As you can imagine, it has been extremely heartbreaking and difficult to watch from the sidelines, the devastation and emotional trauma Kaitlin and her family are going through.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden and tragic passing of Kaitlin’s brother, Daniel.
Daniel had struggled with mental health issues most of his life and things unfortunately got worse in the past couple of years.
After going into a psychosis episode, he was taken to CAMH in desperate need of help. He was diagnosed with BPD and discharged without any treatment and hardly any support. He could not work, live on his own or take care of himself - yet he was forced to fend for himself during his biggest time of need.
After seeing multiple doctors and therapist, the only option that was given to my parents was private care for him that they couldn’t afford.
Even with the love & support of his family, trying several medications, Daniel was unable to break out of this psychosis cycle.
His loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who loved him. In this time of sorrow, we want to come together as a community to show our love and support to his family as they navigate the overwhelming emotional and financial challenges ahead.
This fundraiser has been created to help ease the burden of unexpected expenses, including funeral and memorial costs.
In honour of Daniel’s generous spirit and his deep love for animals, a portion of the funds will also be donated to the Toronto Humane Society—an organization close to his heart.
Daniel touched many lives with his kindness, compassion, and sense of humour. He always put others first and supported his friends and family and coworkers. In his giving nature, Daniel's generosity lives on as he was made to be a organ and tissue donor for TGLN.

To add to the struggles and difficult times the Mettel family is going through, On Friday, Christian, Daniel's father received an ankle replacement and is currently recovering at home unable to work because of it. He has been on disability the last few months because of this injury and unable to work.
Teresa, Daniel’s mother, also recently retired from teaching for the last 30+ years and is currently at home taking care of Christian.
Nicole, Daniel’s sister, just gave birth to her beautiful baby girl Charlie on July 12th.
Through all of this we are hoping that we can help ease some of the financial burdens and try to make it even just a little bit easier for them in this time of grief.
