Together for five years, and married for over two of them, Kelly and Alex are dreaming of becoming parents. Kelly has been living as a Type 1 Diabetic for nearly three decades. She has been working very hard over the last five years on getting her chronic illness under the best control it has ever been in, with the goal of being the safest version of herself to carry a child.

Succeeding in getting her Diabetes under the best control in decades (hello, 7.2 A1c as of October, 2024!), she and her husband were excited to start their conceiving journey.

However, in November of 2024, after years of hard work towards managing her Diabetes, Kelly received the scary and difficult news that she has developed Advanced Diabetic Retinopathy - an irreversible eye complication of Type 1 Diabetes. This diagnosis threatens her vision and requires monthly eye injections to treat the condition - these treatments are not possible when pregnant, therefore she and Alex cannot continue their efforts to become parents in the traditional way. Kelly and Alex were then informed by her supportive OB that carrying a child in the future would be even trickier now, for both her and their potential unborn child, as this new diagnosis indicates further commonly seen pregnancy complications in Diabetics.

After much discussion, Alex and Kelly have decided that her health is of the utmost importance, for both them as a couple and as future parents. They have thus decided to pursue surrogacy in order to become the parents they dream to be. The support from this page would help allow Kelly and Alex to focus on becoming parents rather than the impersonal nature of fees, legalese, and medical procedures.

Donations would cover all of the following and more:

- Surrogacy agency hiring.

- Legal team for surrogacy planning.

- IVF procedures (egg retrieval and semen collection).

- Surrogate vetting (interviews; medical and psychological testing, etc.).

- Surrogate IVF implantation.

- Surrogate medical costs regarding pregnancy.
