Sometimes the biggest heroes are behind the scenes. Manuel Valdes follows us around, with barely a notice. He is at every event and captures the moments we all celebrate.
This weekend at the 2020 Hydrodrags opening event in Tavares Florida, Manuel was thrown off a ski while capturing world records in action. He risks his life without a second thought, and as a result, he was involved in this near death experience. While in the water, being weighed down by his equipment, attempting to keep his head above the water, his only thoughts were to save the photos he had taken of the day’s events. Boosting Performance’s Reinier (Negro) saw what was happening and rushed to his aid. In the process, Negro was struggling to keep Manuel above water and was going under himself. In the end Victor with Angelica Racing rushed over and assist the two. This is a true representation of the love we all have for each other, and how this competition has grown into a family. This experience has affected everyone involved in a profound way, and shows how dedicated and passionate Manuel is about his work. When I asked him how he was doing, and asked him about his prized equipment, all he could say was “I saved the photos”. He is the best out there, and we need him at 100%. Thank God everyone is ok in the end, but the least we can do is TRY to help Manuel replace the equipment he lost while supporting all of us and this sport.
Manuel, you are appreciated more than you know and are our behind-the-scenes hero! This burden should not just be on you!
