- Hello my name is Deanna Mapp and I was put on this earth to serve people. So when I was taken to the hospital on my 50th birthday 11-24-21 my whole world was turned upside down. I worked at Murrays in Cayce, South Carolina as a waitress for the past 5 years. I can count on one hand how many times I've missed work.
Not knowing the symptoms of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia(APL) when I felt weak on Monday I just thought it was from over working. On the following day while getting ready for work I noticed a small bruise on my left thigh. I went to work as normal. Later in the day I started to feel little faint, being the dependable person that I am I had to finish my shift out. For example: (my employer knows that if a shift needs to be covered they can always call and count on me to be there.) So on Wednesday(my 50th birthday) after running some errands I noticed that I had a little pain in my left thigh. Upon inspection I noticed the bruise had grown larger and became discolored. I notified my husband and two of my sisters whom prompted me to seek medical attention. I was hesitant not to spend my birthday in the ER. As the day progressed I begin to notice more than 10 bruises appearing on both of my legs(front and back). After going to the ER I was then admitted to the hospital within 19 hours of my birthday with very low red/white blood cell count, also a very low platelet count. Had I not listened to my body and family!! Where would I be?
Thank God I came to the hospital when I did, because I was later informed that had I waited another day I would not be reaching out to you now. It happened all so suddenly and devastatingly, shocking that I still remain in Lexington Medical Center until this day under going chemotherapy(37 day and counting). I thank the Lord for giving me life 50 years before and saving my life on my 50th.
I'm asking for your help. The proceeds will go towards my insurance deductible of $7,700 out of pocket cost of $8,000. With my husband being on disability and the loss of my income it has become very difficult and stressful and a hard reality to make ends met without the help of your prayers and donations. If you can find it in your heart to spear even just $5.00 it would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping us to recover from this financial devastation.
