Hello everyone,
We took our beloved Dad, Joe Gonzales, on a family trip to Maui that we thought we would never forget. During this trip he was very happy. He saw a part of the world that he had never experienced. Among highlights: we took him horseback riding, he swam in the ocean waves at Kaanapali, and he sat front row on a helicopter tour around the islands. We even wrapped him in a blanket and made him see the extraordinary sunrise at the chilly Haleakala summit. He was excited to go to the Baby Beach where he could swim without regard for the waves. His last conscious morning he held his granddaughter while he made and ate breakfast.
Unfortunately, Joe had a pulmonary embolism while swimming in the ocean. He collapsed while swimming and drowned. He was pulled out of the ocean after his heart stopped. Two of his daughters helped revive him on Baby Beach. His body fought, but sadly he would never be the same. With his respects in mind, we let him fight for ten days in hospital and hospice. He took his last breath on December 27, 2021 at 7:07 PM.
Our family has been through a delayed and longer than expected trip. There are 8 of us total remaining on the island of Maui. We have had much trouble finding reasonable lodging during this busy holiday season. But we are so lucky to have each other during this time. Being together has helped through this unexpected and difficult process.
Joe was literally loved by all. We have had many family and friends reach out offering aid and support. Whatever you could possibly give to help us during this impossibly difficult time would be greatly appreciated.
