It’s even worse than it looks!
Starting our research as Al Amal team, We knew well that the reality of healthcare in Gaza would be bleak, but we didn't realize or imagine the extent of the destruction it has reached in the face of limited resources. Did you know that a high percentage of total cancer deaths worldwide originate from one geographical area (Gaza Strip)? -- according to the ministry of health in Gaza. Despite the fact that the size of this area is incomparable to the global scale of cancer distribution geographically, it harbors an unimaginable
disaster!

A 53% Shortage of Cancer Treatment in Gaza
We believe that the time has come, albeit late, to change the way of life, to fight against death, and to ensure that providing cancer patients with medication is not a struggle for survival, but a remedy for survival. We aim to alleviate the heavy burden placed on hospitals and patients, who have to travel long hours and distances seeking cancer treatment, by bringing this treatment to the strip. And because the suffering is not limited to financial costs, traveling from the besieged Gaza Strip is an ongoing nightmare that has lasted for years. You can imagine the hardships faced by patients and their families in obtaining travel permits (if lucky) to leave through the border that consume a lot of time and effort. Often, cancer patients lose their lives before obtaining the permits, and in many cases, they never get them at all! The hopes of receiving treatment and relief for cancer patients in Gaza are hanging by a thin thread, and unfortunately, that thread is often severed.

Verge of Collapse
Therefore, from a humanitarian and vital perspective, and from all the angles that preserve and protect human life, we refuse to accept this way of life, where being saved becomes the exception. Thus, our dedicated team, Al Amal Team “Amal means hope in Arabic” composed of volunteering change-makers from various segments of society, including young women and men, students, and graduates, in fields such as medicine, pharmacy, and project management, embarked on a humanitarian mission starting this non-profit organization. We aim to be a pathway in people's lives and to reshape this bleak narrative surrounded by death from all sides.
Our Work
Our team has worked tirelessly, countless sleepless nights, researching reports, analyzing data, and engaging with professionals and medical experts to assess the magnitude of the disaster. The more we delved into our work, the more determined and urgent we became to achieve our goal. After over a year and a half, we have uncovered the points of pain and urgent issues in the pharmaceutical sector in Gaza, from the oncology sector to all other essential sectors. Our goal is to provide affordable and accessible medications in our community.
We have been working diligently for some time, creating relationships and partnerships with reputable medical companies and factories abroad that hold official recognition from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Saudi FDA and many others. This ensures the safety, security, and effectiveness of the medication we will provide.

A Holistic Approach to Healthcare in Gaza
Moreover, our mission goes beyond providing medication; we have developed a comprehensive approach and clear plans to ensure the physical and psychological care of patients. We offer free medical consultations before and after medication delivery and support patients' adherence to their medications through comprehensive programs and plans. This encompasses all segments of society and facilitates their access. We have also taken into consideration the needs of visually impaired individuals by providing Braille language on medication packaging. Our work is not only about prolonging the lives of our patients but also improving their quality of life.
With our plans, we aim to transcend patients obstacles, as we confront the monopoly of pharmaceutical companies that hinder access to essential medications for those in need. We will provide alternative, cost-effective options that suit the deteriorating economic situation in Gaza. We will also bring active ingredients that have been absent from Gaza for many years due to various reasons, leaving patients in helplessness and vulnerability.
